Enhanced Digital Marketplace Security…
74% of your customers demand it!
When Amazon clients are surveyed about what they want most from their digital marketplace experience, that list has been rather static over the last few years…..until recently. Over the last five years, the typical Amazon customer was looking for the following while shopping on line:
- Best Pricing
- Best Selection of Targeted Products
- Fast/ Reliable Shipping
- Ease of Use Regarding the Digital Platform
As you can see, those four items all focus on the actual shopping experience itself. They are much like what a “brick & mortar,” shopper looks for traditionally when they frequent a mall or store.
The shopper that was physically visiting a store was interested in finding a great selection of products with tremendous pricing discounts while the location itself was comfortable and afforded them easy commuter access or parking.
However, times have changed and now one of the major issues for shoppers both in the online marketplace as in the “brick & mortar,” segment is security. For the tangible shopper, it is a question of personal security as they are more conscious of being mugged or targeted for a violent crime.
In fact, one of the reasons given for consumers increasing their digital shopping efforts was they felt safer shopping from home than among other people. Now however, digital consumers are demanding increased or enhanced online marketplace security as well.
Whether this demand is being driven by the medias almost constant highlighting of “digital hacking,” or if it is because they actually know someone who had their credit card information stolen, the savvy digital consumer is willing to compromise on “…ease of use regarding the digital platform,” for an enhanced security process with their digital seller.
Top Security Concerns for Your Customer
When surveyed, the most active digital consumers have very specific security concerns when it comes to their online shopping experience. If you can address these concerns, then you will increase your customer’s level of satisfaction…and thus possibly increase your sales volumes as well.
The main security issues online shoppers are currently most anxious about are:
- Personal Identification being compromised
- Credit Card Information being compromised
- Online Contact Information being compromised allowing unwanted solicitations or personal contacts
- Delivery of Products to Their Home or Office by Questionable Sources
There are several actions that you as a digital marketplace seller can take to not only actually enhance your digital security for your clients, but to also add to their feeling of safety. In fact, it is possible that you don’t really need to make any changes in your business model at all (if you are already confident in your levels of security) but only need to make your customers aware of your efforts.
If you are already using a high-security server protection system (such as Amazon’s Bitdefender) that will protect your client’s personal and financial information, perhaps you simply need to let them know that. By adding a more obvious explanation on your website that discusses the steps you take to ensure the security of your client’s information, you may put them at ease.
You may also want to explain in a more direct manner that you never share your clients information with any outside sources so they will not have to worry about their contact information being released to other entities.
This would also be a good place to define what types of delivery services you use to ship their products. By simply stating that you only use the USPS or a well known delivery/shipping service like FEDEX or UPS, you can ally many fears of who will be visiting their front door once they do business with you.
Safer Websites Enjoy Higher Sales Volumes!
Finally, explain to them that when you require your customers to set up a website password or to fill out additional information during the transaction process, this is for their own protection.
As the latest surveys have shown, the typical savvy digital customer is willing to accept a bit more “hassle,” to help ensure their online transactions do not compromise their personal safety.
To that end, you may find that your sales volumes increase as your customer’s confidence in your company’s commitment to their well being, increases as well!
